Today, we attended the San Diego Sea Perch Regional Competition and demonstrated our RoboSub, RoboBoat, and MonkeyBot to over 200+ Robonation students and parents. We demonstrated our RoboSub and Roboboat in the pool and taught the Sea Perch students about other Robonation competitions and Team Inspiration. We received excellent feedback from the Sea Perch organizers.
Here was our groups reflection:
We brought all the materials needed (packing was very good and organized). We got to teach people about RoboSub at our static booth demonstration (they wanted to create their own robosub team). Lots of people asked how we gained so many sponsors.
Next time, check facility to make sure theres power (instead of having to use the inside lifegarued area to charge batteries). Make sure Robosub works (remonte controlled) after making changes- the pixwahk was out of tune so the robosub remote control didn’t work either.
The Roboboat was engaging for many students, but they drove the boat very fast. Also, they did some dangerous moves and were very close to hitting the edge of the pool. The thruster guard (thats 3d printed) broke when putting the robot into the car. Next time, maybe reduce the thruster power for remote control.
The roboboat’s battery checker did not work causign the battery to be broken.
Even with a megaphone, some people in the back couldn’t hear us, so we need to make sure to speak even louder. Also, be more prepared of what you're saying (and promt all the team members).
We had 36 teams with an average of 4 members per team. So approximately 145 students in attendance.
