Urban Life Summer Camp- 7/1/25 to 7/3/25

From 7/1/25 to 7/3/25, we are teaching robotics at the Urban Life Summer Camp.

Details of Outreach:

• July 1st (1 pm-4 pm): Team Introduction (10 minutes), teaching the students how to make a fortune teller (25 minutes), teaching students how to fold a magic cube (40 minutes), intro to egg drop (25 min)

• July 2nd (1 pm-4:15 pm): Sketch egg drop design, build design, test the design, rebuild the design, test the design, flow chart intro, programming intro, programming with iRobot

• July 3rd (1 pm-3 pm): UCSD Tour
  

Lessons learned/summary:

• Don’t do the 2-page journey anymore

• Don’t assume the students don’t know what something is (like what a fortune teller is)

• Show a video of the Robosub going through the water (the students may not know what an underwater vehicle looks like)

• The fortune teller was good, and the kids were excited

• Unless the kids are very advanced, don’t create a magic cube because it is hard, and the kids will get frustrated

• Speak loudly and find a way to get the kids' attention at the beginning
