RobotX - Drone Electrical
Overview
Here is the electrical schematic for both Don and Ekko. The Power flows from the 6S LiPo battery through the PDB to both the 4-in-1 ESC (powering the motors) and the Pixhawk Cube flight controller. The Pixhawk manages GPS, telemetry, and motor commands, while a Jetson Orin Nano companion computer handles the camera and any additional onboard processing.
Camera
We use a SIYI A8 mini camera, which is mounted on the lower frame of the drone. The camera is attached to a gimbal, which has its internal IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to maintain its pitch angle regardless of the drone’s maneuver. The camera streams up to 1080p video through Ethernet, and we control the gimbal through Ethernet sockets. The recording quality of the camera can go up to 4K, saved to the SD card attached to the camera.
